TPD Trains Officers as EMTs

07/22/2016 – Tulsa police officers started training to be EMTs last winter.

30 Tulsa police officers have officially been trained as EMTs. Grants helped to pay for most of the training and equipment needed for the program. Officers applied for the program and are now trained to look for signs of heat stroke and heat exhaustion in citizens.

Now, 30 officers are fully certified EMTs. The program and equipment was mostly funded by grants. Officers had to apply and be accepted into the program.

They say now they’re using their training to keep an eye out for heat stroke and heat exhaustion. They’ve also used their skills in emergency situations to triage wounds in some cases.
