Tulsa police participate in Random Acts of Kindness campaign
12/19/2018 – TULSA, Okla. (KTUL) — When Tulsa Police Officer Leland Ashley got into his patrol car Wednesday morning, the police radio was on but he wasn’t tracking down criminals.
Instead, he was tracking down people to give them gifts.
“When most people see a police officer behind them, they think they’re in trouble or that something bad is going to happen,” said Ashley. “We’re going to see if we can get some smiles.”
It’s all thanks to the Tulsa Police Department Foundation with their Random Acts of Kindness Campaign. Officers scour the streets, just looking to spread some holiday cheer.
Happening Wednesday through Friday, officers are giving out bags of food, holiday hams and turkeys, and gift cards. This is TPD’s fourth year of the RAK campaign.
“Anytime you can have a polite greeting with people, it’s great,” said Ashley. “Especially during this time of year.”
