INVESTING IN THE OFFICERS

BEHIND THE BADGE

The Tulsa Police Foundation equips officers with the tools and training they need to serve Tulsa with excellence.

Officer Well-being + Training

From leadership development to life-saving equipment and enhanced training, our investments help keep officers safe and make better decisions under stress, allowing them to go home safely at the end of each shift.

Life-Saving Equipment

Through donor support, the Foundation is equipping officers with critical tools designed to save lives. In 2024, the Foundation funded rifle-rated ballistic shields that protect officers during active-shooter and high-caliber threat responses, allowing them to safely reach and rescue victims. The Foundation also donated a state-of-the-art M-VAC DNA collection system—making the Tulsa Police Department the first agency in Oklahoma to have access to this groundbreaking technology.

Support for TPD Yoga Programs

Thanks to a grant from the Hardesty Family Foundation, the Tulsa Police Foundation proudly supports Tactical Yoga, providing new equipment like yoga blocks and training to strengthen and sustain the program. TPD incorporates Tactical Yoga for First Responders into academy training to improve both physical and mental health. By enhancing flexibility, endurance, and focus, Tactical Yoga equips officers to manage the stresses and physical demands of police work.

SUPPORTING OFFICER LEADERSHIP TRAINING

SENIOR MANAGEMENT INSTITUTE FOR POLICE (SMIP)

The Foundation supports senior leadership development aligned with programs such as the Senior Management Institute for Police (SMIP) — a national three-week intensive course run by the Police Executive Research Forum that prepares senior executives for the complex challenges of modern policing. This investment ensures Tulsa’s officers are not only protecting the community today, but are also being prepared to lead it with excellence in the years to come.

SMIP brings together leading thinkers in corporate and public management to provide intensive training in the latest management theories and practices, innovative solutions to organizational problems, and discussion of important issues in managing public service organizations effectively.

NATIONAL CO-RESPONDER CONFERENCE (CoRCon)

The Foundation invests in specialized training that expands the tools officers need to respond effectively to real-world crises. Through donor support, the Foundation sends Tulsa officers to the National Co-Responder Conference—an intensive national training experience dedicated to advancing collaborative responses between law enforcement and mental health professionals. This conference equips officers with innovative strategies, evidence-based practices, and real-time solutions for safely and effectively supporting individuals experiencing behavioral health emergencies.

This investment strengthens Tulsa’s co-responder program and enhances the department’s ability to de-escalate high-risk encounters, reduce use-of-force incidents, and connect community members to life-saving services. By supporting this training, donors help ensure Tulsa is leading the way with modern, compassionate approaches that protect both officers and the people they serve.
